An official ceremony and various celebrations were organized in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the occasion of Day of the City of Sarajevo, which marks the city’s liberation from Nazi occupation in 1945 at the end of World War II and the start of the siege of Sarajevo in 1992. During the official ceremony, government officials, politicians, and citizens laid wreaths at the Eternal Fire Monument in the city center and the Kovachi Martyrs’ Cemetery, where the tomb of the late Aliya Izetbegovic, the first President of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was visited.
