A jaguar attacked Jose, 14, at the Leon City Zoo in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. Jose, who was injured in the attack, received first aid from his family and zoo staff. Jose’s health status has been announced as stable. “The safety barriers surrounding the cages should not be exceeded in order to ensure the safety of both visitors and animals at the facility,” Leon Zoo management stated regarding the incident. The boy crossed the barriers and approached the cage of the jaguar to take photos despite the warnings, witnesses said.

The zoo management also stated that they will support the treatment of the injured child.
