Brawl Breaks Out During at TRNC General Assembly

A brawl broke out between members of the parliament during the third round of the Speakership election in the TRNC General Assembly, where Zorlu Töre, a member of the ruling National Unity Party (UBP), was re-nominated and the votes were very close. UBP MP Ahmet Savaşan and opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP) MP Ceyhun Birinci got into a fight.

The vote, in which 49 MPs participated and Töre was the only candidate, was repeated 5 times in total as Töre could not get the 26 votes he needed. However, he declared that he was elected because there was no other candidate and closed the session following the fifth round, which was reacted strongly by CTP MPs.
