brawl erupts in taiwan parliament over covid-19 response

Punches and water bottles were thrown as brawl erupted during Taiwanese Premier Su Tseng-chang’s speech in the parliament on the government’s performance with a focus on national security and the economy. Demanding the Premier’s resignation due to bad management of the Covid-19 pandemic, the opposition lawmakers mobbed the speaker’s podium. Opposition lawmaker Chen Yu-Jen tried to climb the podium where she was blocked and taken away by members of Su’s party.

Most in the country is reacting to the government, arguing that the increase in cases is due to pilots returning from overseas and only being quarantined for 3 days. Reducing the quarantine period for pilots to 3 days is considered a major violation.
