Brazil floods aftermath: 20 killed

Heavy rains have caused flooding in 19 cities in the state of Bahia, which have been in effect for weeks in the northeastern parts of Brazil. According to the Brazilian Ministry of Civil Defense, the death toll rose to 20 and the number of injured to 358. Many highways collapsed in the state, 47 highways were closed to traffic. A state of emergency was declared in a total of 100 cities. A cruise ship in the Rio Negro river sank as a result of the storm. Authorities said there were no casualties in the incident. More than 30,000 people have been evacuated. Two dams had collapsed due to heavy rainfall raising the water levels in the rivers. Authorities in the region announced that 13 more dams are in danger of collapsing. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro announced that the federal government will provide a loan of 200 million real ($35,520,000) to repair damaged highways in the region.
