Buffalos in Erzurum Enjoy Cooling Stream

In Söğütlü village, 18 kilometers from Türkiye’s eastern province of Erzurum, buffalos have become a unique attraction as they cool off in a local stream after grazing, a scene reminiscent of African wildlife documentaries. The village, known for its fish lake and lush greens, also boasts high-quality buffalo milk, yogurt, and cheese, which are in high demand. However, the buffalos’ natural bathing ponds are rapidly drying up due to regional canal works, raising concerns among locals. Nazım Çelik, a 64-year-old shepherd, highlights the importance of water baths for the animals, which enhance their comfort and milk production. He appeals for support from authorities to address the water shortage and preserve the buffalos’ vital bathing routine.
