Bus Crash Kills 16 in Northeastern Brazil

At least 16 people, including four children, were killed when a passenger bus carrying around 60 people overturned on a bend in the road in Alagoas state, northeastern Brazil. The bus was returning from celebrations marking Our Lady of Candelaria when the crash occurred.

Alagoas Aviation Department director Colonel André Madeiro said several passengers were thrown from the vehicle or trapped underneath it, calling the crash “unusually severe.” Alagoas Governor Paulo Dantas announced a three-day period of mourning as authorities launched an investigation into the incident.
