The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reported that the wildfire that started in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles and spread to homes, businesses and vehicles has so far reduced 2,921 acres to ashes.
The flames spread to the famous Palisades Charter High School, where many Hollywood movies were shot, and the nearby elementary school. Education was suspended in some schools. California Governor Gavin Newsom, who said in a press conference that many structures had been destroyed and the fire was continuing to grow, declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that several people were injured and 1 firefighter was taken to the hospital with a serious head injury.
Shortly after the Pacific Palisades fire, two more fires broke out in Los Angeles County; the Hurst fire north of San Fernando has engulfed 500 acres, while the Eaton fire in Altadena has burnt 1,000 acres.
Firefighting efforts continue with more than 1,400 firefighters.
