Çanakkale Forest Fire Contained After 24 Hours

 

A forest fire on August 15 in Türkiye’s Historic Çanakkale (Gallipoli) Peninsula, where the Çanakkale Wars took place, was controlled after 24 hours. The fire affected 700 hectares and required 12 planes, 9 helicopters, and 450 personnel for containment. The blaze damaged historic sites, including parts of Conkbayırı and Anzac Bay. Unexploded artillery shells from the Çanakkale Wars were found after the fire. Three forestry workers were injured in a traffic accident during the response but returned to duty after treatment.
