A cargo ship carrying 4,900 tons of steel from China’s Fujian province collided with the Jiujiang Bridge in Foshan city, Guangdong province, causing it to sink. The ship, with 11 crew members, began taking on water after the crash and sank later. Seven crew members were rescued, while four remained missing, prompting a large-scale search and rescue operation involving 32 ships and over 400 personnel.
Initial assessments indicate no major damage to the bridge structure. Authorities are investigating the incident, possibly linking it to rising water levels in the region following fatal flooding that claimed four lives in Guangdong province.
