Carnival of Venice holds amid pandemic

The Carnival of Venice has begun in historic city of Venice amid Covid-19 pandemic. The carnival runs from 12 February to 01 March on a smaller than usual scale due to pandemic restrictions. The theme of this year’s carnival is entitled “Remember the Future” – in honor of Salvador Dali’s quote “And most of all, I remember the future.”

Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnara made a statement regarding the carnival, where limited events took place due to the pandemic, “We wanted to send a message of hope, especially to the children, with this carnival. In addition to the events and competitions as part of the Carnival, there will be many shows in different parts of the city.” The event also includes concerts, musical performances, puppetry for children, acrobatics and clowning shows. These events will take place between February 24 and March 1 in a time period called “fat week”.
