Cartel clashes kill 9 in Mexico

Armed members of two hostile criminal organizations attacked each other with automatic weapons and burned vehicles to block highways to traffic in the cities of Uruapan and Chinicuila in the Mexican state of Michoacan. The clashes caused fear among the people of the region.

During the joint operation, carried out by the Mexican Army and Michoacan State Security Forces, six bodies were found shot and burned in a burning vehicle on a highway in Chinicuila. The security forces also found another three who died in clashes in Uruapan. Fifteen gunmen, equipped with bulletproof vests, were arrested in the operation carried out in various parts of the state.
