Cartel violence in Mexico

Clashes broke out between cartel members and security forces in the early hours of the morning in the city of Nuevo Laredo in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. In the city, located on the border of the US state of Texas, cartel members set fire to many vehicles and closed the roads to traffic.

The Mexican President Lopez Obrador stated that the attacks took place due to the arrest of the cartel leader “Comandante Negrolo”, who was responsible for many violent incidents in Nuevo Laredo in recent days.

The local government announced that the schools were closed for security reasons and the public transportation service was stopped.

Authorities reported security was restored in the city of Nuevo Laredo with the support of the Mexican army. No official statement was made regarding loss of life or injuries.
