Cause of Puerto Rican Volleyball Player’s Death Determined to be Food Poisoning

It was determined that the death of the 28-year-old spiker of the Nilüfer Belediyespor Women’s Volleyball Team, Pilar Marie Victoria Lopez, who was found dead in her house in Bursa, Türkiye, after she did not attend training on August 29, 2024, occurred due to natural causes.

The examination conducted at the Bursa Forensic Medicine Institute revealed that there were no traces of murder on Lopez’s body and her death was seemingly due to food poisoning. It was also reported that she had bleeding in her pancreas.

After determining that the player’s death was not a legal case, the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, which was conducting the investigation, decided to not prosecute.
