Chinese Coast Guard Attacks Philippine Boats in South China Sea

Tensions between China and the Philippines in the South China Sea are rising. On June 17, Chinese Coast Guard personnel attacked Philippine army boats with knives and axes during a supply mission to the BRP Sierra Madre at Second Thomas Shoal. The Chinese forces also used sirens and flashing lights to create chaos and disrupt communications. Despite the aggression, Philippine soldiers maintained their positions and provided first aid to the injured, underscoring their commitment to international law and regional peace.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian commented on the incident, saying, “The action taken by the Chinese Coast Guard at the scene was professional and measured,” and claimed that they were trying to stop an “illegal” resupply mission.
