Nemesio Oseguera, known as “El Mencho” and leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, was killed in a military operation in Jalisco, Mexico, according to Mexican media. The CJNG is considered one of the country’s most powerful criminal organizations.
Following the operation, cartel members set vehicles on fire in several cities and clashes were reported near Guadalajara International Airport. Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro urged residents to stay home as violence spread.
US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau welcomed the operation, calling it a great development for the world.
