Climate activists target “Girl with a Pearl Earring” in Netherlands

The Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer’s masterpiece “Girl with a Pearl Earring” at the Mauritshuis Museum in The Hague, Netherlands, was attacked by two Just Stop Oil members. One of the activists, wearing a T-shirt with the words “Just Stop Oil,” stuck his hand on the wall where the painting was located, and the other stuck his head on the painting. While pressing his face against the painting, the activist spilled a can of canned tomatoes over his head.

Three people were detained by the police following the incident on charges of “damaging property”. After the attack, the room where the painting was located was closed to visitors.
