Cruise ship with 2,428 passengers collides with cargo ship in Germany

Germany narrowly avoided a major disaster last night. According to a statement from the Bremen Police Department, the collision occurred as the cruise ship carrying 2,428 passengers and 922 crew members was departing the port of Bremerhaven, bound for the Canary Islands. While being guided by tugboats from the Columbus Quay in Bremerhaven, the named Mein Schiff 3 was pushed by a severe storm into the MSC Victorine, a container ship docked at the pier. The moment of impact was captured on a mobile phone by a passenger aboard the cruise ship. A 10-meter-long gash was torn into the outer hull of the cruise ship, and several lifeboats were destroyed.
No passengers or crew members were injured in the incident, and the cruise ship was towed back to the Columbus Quay. Both passengers and crew spent the night on board.
