Cyclone Fengal brought devastating rains and floods to India and Sri Lanka, leaving 19 dead—16 in Sri Lanka and 3 in India. The cyclone, which hit India’s southern coast from the Bay of Bengal, submerged streets in Puducherry and Chennai, disrupting transport and flooding homes and businesses.
In Sri Lanka, heavy rains affected around 140,000 families. Strong winds also disrupted air travel, forcing an IndiGo Airlines flight to abort its landing at Chennai International Airport. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing in the affected areas.
