Cyclone Garance Kills 4 in Reunion Island, France

Four people reportedly lost their lives due to the powerful Cyclone Garance that hit Reunion Island, an overseas territory of France, yesterday.

Authorities also stated that more than 180,000 people on the island were left without electricity, more than 170,000 people did not have access to clean water, and many roads were blocked by fallen trees, flooded or heavily damaged.

Approximately 200 firefighters and civil aid workers will be sent to the island from Mayotte Island, another overseas territory of France, and mainland France to support the work.

France authorities say that the cyclone was more severe than Cyclone Belal, which killed 4 people on the island in January 2024.
