Cyclone Kompasu affects southernmost province of China

Cyclone Kompasu, which was effective in the Philippines and Hong Kong, made a landfall in the island province of Hainan in the south of China. Hainan Meteorological Service stated that the typhoon began to take effect at 15:30 local time on the coastline of Boao town in Qionghai city and brought winds of up to 118.8 kilometers per hour. All flights at major airports in the province were canceled, along with the high-speed rail service, as well as the suspension of ferry services across the strait connecting Hainan to Guangdong province, authorities announced. Kompasu is expected to hit Vietnam.
