Due to the heavy rains and strong winds caused by the Cyclone Sitrang that hit Bangladesh yesterday, more than 16 died. Affecting particularly the coastal regions of southern and southwestern Bangladesh, the cyclone left nearly 10 million without electricity.
Stating that 14 died because of falling trees and 2 died as their boat sank in Jamura River, said they do not have information on all aspects of the damage.
Kamrul Ahsan, Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, said that approximately 1 million people who were evacuated spent the night in multi-storey shelters and many returned to their homes this morning.
