Suez Canal Authority (SCA) in Egypt reported on Monday that the daily traffic crossing rate had reached a record high, with 107 ships passing in both directions without waiting and carrying a net tonnage of 6.3 million tonnes.
According to the SCA’s head, Osama Rabie, 56 ships passed through the canal with a net tonnage of 3.4 million tonnes, while 51 ships crossed the canal’s new navigational track with a total net tonnage of 2.9 million tonnes.
He also stated that the implementation of a project to enhance the canal’s southern sector will provide for a 28 percent increase in safety for navigation and a six-ship capacity increase.
