With the fall of the Assad regime, Damascus residents are now able to buy imported fruits and vegetables as trade restrictions ease. Shopkeepers in the Syrian capital have begun selling tropical fruits, drawing strong interest from locals.
Syrian shopkeeper Yussef noted that previously only pineapples were available, costing 200,000 Syrian pounds each. “Now, they sell for 25,000. We’ve seen some fruits for the first time,” he said. Another vendor, Abu Muhammed, added, “With the ban lifted, imported fruits are now on the stalls, and everyone can buy them.”
