Deadly Russian Strikes Target Ukrainian Heritage, Killing 9

Overnight drone and missile attacks by Russian forces killed four civilians in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, and five rescue workers in the northeastern city of Kharkiv. The widespread bombardment injured nearly thirty people across both cities and left over 140,000 Kyiv residents without electricity. The strikes also sparked a fire at the historic Kyiv-Pechersk Monastery, a revered UNESCO-protected landmark. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko condemned the assault as a brutal attack on the nation’s people and cultural heritage. Echoing this outrage, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha demanded immediate action from international institutions, declaring that the deliberate destruction of the holy site surpasses even the cultural crimes committed by ISIS.
