Deadly Wave Sweeps Tourists Into Sea in Spain’s Tenerife: 4 Killed

A powerful wave struck a natural rock pool in Los Gigantes on Tenerife, Spain, sweeping five people into the ocean. Authorities said four people died and one remains missing.

Search crews using jet skis and helicopters continue to scan the coast. Local officials said the pool had been closed since December 3 due to rough seas, but the victims ignored warning signs and barriers.

The pool sits nearly at sea level, making it extremely dangerous when large waves breach its concrete barrier.
