Tropical Cyclone Remal has caused significant devastation in India and Bangladesh. In India’s Mizoram state, heavy rains led to the collapse of a quarry in the capital, Aizawl, killing 15 people and trapping many others. State Prime Minister Lalduhoma noted that poor signal strength is hampering rescue efforts. Schools are closed, and the public has been urged to stay home.
The cyclone, with winds reaching 135 km/h, also affected other parts of India, resulting in 8 additional deaths, raising the country’s total toll to 23. In Bangladesh, the cyclone struck near Mongla Port and the Sagar Islands, causing 10 fatalities. The combined death toll from Cyclone Remal now stands at 33.
