Death Toll from Ethiopia Landslide Rises to 157

The death toll from the recent landslide in Ethiopia’s Gofa region has climbed to 157, according to Markos Melese, Head of the National Disaster Response Agency for the region. Heavy rains triggered the landslide, impacting two villages. Search efforts continue, and more bodies are expected to be found.

Landslides are common in Ethiopia during the rainy season, which runs from July to mid-September. The United Nations reports that climate-related challenges have exacerbated malnutrition issues, affecting millions in the country.
