Death Toll from Forest Fires Rises to 18 in South Korea

The death toll from forest fires that have been continuing in South Gyeongsang and North Gyeongsang provinces in South Korea since Friday has risen to 18 and injuries rise to 19.

One pilot lost their life as a firefighting helicopter crashed in North Gyeongsang.

It was reported that 1 person went missing.

Around 500 inmates from a prison in North Gyeongsang province and a total of 5,500 civilians have been evacuated due to the fires that have reduced at least 17,000 hectares to ashes. It was also reported that the ancient Gounsa Temple in Uiseong district in North Gyeongsang province has been destroyed.
