Fire and Emergency Services reported that the death toll has risen to 28 in the crash that occurred when an American Airlines passenger plane carrying 64 people crashed into a military helicopter with 4 people on board while attempting to land at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in the United States and both fell into the Potomac River.

John Donnelly, Washington D.C. Fire and Emergency Services Chief, said that they do not think there are any survivors.

American Airlines CEO Robert Isom said at a press conference that they do not know why the helicopter crossed into the path of the passenger plane.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said that the personnel in the helicopter, who were at a training in the meantime, knew there was a plane in the area and that he thought the collision was preventable based on the information obtained.
