Death Toll Reaches 157 in Afghanistan Floods

Sweeping across more than 20 provinces in Afghanistan, severe flooding and landslides triggered by relentless heavy rains have claimed the lives of at least 157 people and left 229 others injured. The national Disaster Management Agency reports that nine individuals remain missing as emergency teams assess the widespread destruction of nearly 8,000 homes. The two-week deluge has also severely crippled local infrastructure and agriculture, submerging 372 kilometers of roadways and ruining 18,400 acres of farmland. With storms expected to persist, the Afghanistan Meteorological Department has issued urgent warnings, urging residents in vulnerable river valleys to take immediate precautions against further flash floods and potential roof collapses.
