Death toll rose to 1,419 in the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti last Saturday. According to the latest statement by the Haitian Civil Defense Agency, 6,900 people were injured, and more than 37,000 houses were destroyed. The injured were treated on stretchers outside the hospitals due to lack of capacity in the buildings.
