The collapse of the 10-storey building related death-toll is increasing in Abadan, in Iran’s Khuzestan province. Abadan Governor İhsan Abbasipur said in a statement, “The exact number of people trapped under the rubble is not known, but the dead bodies of 18 people have been found so far.” Noting that 37 people were pulled out of the wreckage alive and taken to hospitals for treatment, Governor Abbasipur stated that most of them were discharged. Abbasipur said the search and rescue operation will continue until the last person is found.
Interior Minister Ahmed Vahid, who was in Abadan, emphasized that the works were progressing slowly and carefully on the grounds that the adjacent buildings were at risk of collapse.
