Death toll rises to 42 in Megri Tropical Storm in Phillipines

The Megi tropical storm that hit the Philippines ripped through roads and houses. According to the statements made by the Philippines authorities, the number of people who lost their lives in the storm rose to 42, and more than 17 thousand people left their homes.

Marissa Miguel Cano, a public information officer in the city of Baybay in Leyte province, where Megi landed and caused the most destruction, stated that she stopped the search activities on the grounds that it was “too dangerous” for the emergency teams to continue working in the dark. National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Spokesperson Mark Timbal stated that the landslides around the city of Baybay reached settlements “outside the danger zone” and said, “There were people in the houses that were the target of the landslide.”
