Demolition of Mosque Triggered Deadly Protest in India

A conflict broke out between Muslims and Indian police after the demolition of a mosque in the Haldwani city of Uttarakhand state led to a violent protest. The protesters set fire to nearby vehicles and threw rocks at police, while police intervened with tear gas. At least 4 people died, and at least 80 people, including police and journalists, were injured.

District Judge Vandana Singh stated that the building was not declared as a religious building, and the authorities were informed about the demolition. The demolition order was not directed at any community, added Singh.
