Demonstrations after building collapsed intensified in Iran

The demonstrations that started as a result of the collapse of a 10-storey building in the city of Abadan in Iran’s Khuzestan province, where 28 people lost their lives, turned into acts of violence. Security forces intervened in the protests organized for those who lost their lives in the cities of Abadan, Bender Abbas and Behbahan in Khuzestan and Shahin Shahr in Isfahan province. The demonstrators attacked some shops and workplaces that were reported to belong to the contractor of the collapsed 10-storey building named Metropol. Clashes took place between demonstrators and security forces in many areas. Meanwhile the police didn’t allow the shouting of anti-regime slogans in the solidarity demonstrations that started for those who lost their lives in the city of Abadan. In the images shared on social media, some demonstrators were chanting “death to the dictator”, while the security forces intervened by firing tear gas and shooting into the air.
