Dog-Ownership Taxes to Increase in US

In the United States, where dog ownership taxes become increasingly common, many states are planning to increase tax amounts and introduce new regulations.

Dog-owning taxes, which are usually collected every year under the application of “license renewal,” can go up to $100, especially in developed states such as California, and in some states, they vary depending on the breed, age and whether the dog is neutered or not. A lifetime licensing option is also available in states such as Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan.

Authorities state that the collected tax is being used to improve animal control services, contribute to the rehabilitation of stray animals and ensure that dogs are regularly vaccinated.

Meanwhile, dog owners react to the regulations, saying that their only purpose is to generate income and that they do not contribute to animal welfare. In addition, the fact that some states consider dogs as property for the purpose of collecting taxes is highly criticized by animal rights advocates. Some animal rights advocates argue that this practice will help reduce the number of homeless animals and encourage responsible dog ownership.
