Dominican Minister of Environment shot dead in his office

The Minister of the Environment of the Dominican Republic, Orlando Jorge Mera, was shot dead in his office, located in the capital city of Santo Domingo. Mera was shot and detained by his close friend Miguel Cruz, the Presidential Office stated.

Police and emergency teams were dispatched to the scene, and they secured the building where the head of Ministry of Tourism also located. Seven gunshots were heard from the building, witnesses said.
