Dozens Arrested as Belgian Student Protests Turn Violent

Student protests across Belgium’s Walloon region have escalated, leading to major school blockades and dozens of arrests. In the city of Liège, demonstrators erected barricades outside educational facilities, actively preventing peers and teachers from entering despite a heightened police presence. The unrest has grown increasingly violent, leaving 22 police officers injured and resulting in 53 arrests between October 1st and 5th. In response to the ongoing chaos, the Liège prosecutor’s office has launched a strict crackdown, officially declaring a “zero tolerance” policy for anyone caught inciting violence on social media.
