Driver Found Months After Truck Fell Into Giant Sinkhole in Japan

In Japan’s Saitama prefecture, the body of a 74-year-old truck driver who vanished when a massive sinkhole swallowed his vehicle in January has been recovered after three months. Authorities found the body in the truck’s cab, 30 meters from the crater’s center in Yashio city. The sinkhole, which expanded to 40 meters wide and 15 meters deep, was caused by sewage pipe leaks. Search efforts were halted in February due to safety risks and resumed in April. Identification procedures are ongoing.
