Earthquake hits northern Peru

An earthquake of 6.8 magnitude hit the northern Peru. The epicenter of the earthquake was 90 kilometers away from the city of Santa Maria de Nieva in the Amazon region, the Peruvian Geophysics Institute stated. No casualties or material loss have been reported in the earthquake yet, local officials said. On November 21, 2021, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck the country, causing hundreds of houses to be destroyed and injuring 12 people.

Peru is located in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, where about 85 percent of the world’s seismic activities are recorded.
