Earthquake of magnitude 7.2 hits Tajikistan-China border

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit Tajikistan’s mountainous Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province on the border with China, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC). The earthquake, which struck at a depth of 10 kilometers, caused no reports of injuries, fatalities or damage.

The US Geological Service (USGS) also stated that the earthquake’s magnitude was 6.8 and that its epicenter was located 67 kilometers west of Murghab, Tajikistan.

In northwest China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, the earthquake was also felt strongly.
