earthquakes in Türkiye killed 912, injured 5,385

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that the death toll from the 7.7 magnitude earthquake and numerous aftershocks that struck the Mediterranean region of the country and were also felt in Syria has increased to 912 and the number of injured to 5,385. While aftershocks keep coming, 2,470 people have been recovered from 2,818 destroyed buildings so far. Erdogan announced that the country received offers of assistance from 45 countries, inluding NATO and the EU.

The earthquakes in the region have been the biggest disaster in the last century after the 7.9 magnitude earthquake in Erzincan in 1939.
