Edinburgh streets filled with rubbish as cleaners strike

Cleaning staff have gone strike in Scotland’s capital Edinburgh over payment dispute. Streets were piled up with bags of rubbish. Trade unions rejected the 3.5 percent increase initially offered, then the offer increased to 5 percent.

Cosla, which is affiliated to the local government, announced that it had a productive meeting with the unions. However, 3 unions stated that no consensus has been reached yet and that they are requesting more funds from the Scottish government.

The strike is expected to continue through the end of the month.
