Egypt’s population to surpass 158 million in 2050

Data from the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) of the Cabinet of Egypt was highlighted on Sunday in a report indicating that Egypt’s population is expected to reach 158.8 million in 2050, up from 109.3 million in 2021. According to the report, the large population growth is attributed to high fertility rates (3.2), which are the fourth highest in the Middle East and North Africa. The country will need to increase its spending on infrastructure projects and development over the next 30 years to accommodate the expected growth, the report said.

Egypt has launched several campaigns and programs in recent years to reduce population growth, spending over 100 million Egyptian pounds annually to provide birth control for free or at reduced prices.
