Elderly Shoemaker Rebuilds Business After Türkiye Earthquake

Sabri Yıldırım, a 75-year-old shoemaker in Osmaniye, Türkiye, continues his craft in a small 3-square-meter hut after his 54-year-old workshop was destroyed in the February 6 earthquake. Starting his shoemaking career at age 12, Yıldırım built the wooden hut himself due to high rents for containers replacing destroyed shops. He now repairs shoes and bags and manufactures shoes from scratch, remaining one of the last shoemakers in Osmaniye. “I am the last master in Osmaniye,” Yıldırım remarked, reflecting on his lifelong dedication to the craft.
