In response to the forest fires near Varnava village and Megara town, close to Athens, Greece, the EU Civil Protection Mechanism has been activated. Greece, which has been battling forest fires since May, requested assistance from the European Union. Fire brigades from Italy, France, the Czech Republic, and Romania are being deployed to support Greece’s firefighting efforts. France is sending a firefighting helicopter, Italy is dispatching a firefighting plane, and the Czech Republic is providing 25 vehicles and 75 firefighters.
Additionally, Türkiye has offered assistance to Greece, with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan conveying the country’s readiness to help under the principle of good neighborly relations.
