European Parliament Elections Kick Off in the Netherlands

The European Parliament (EP) elections commenced today in the Netherlands, marking the beginning of the process to elect 720 members who will serve for the next five years. Dutch citizens began voting at 07:30 local time to select 31 deputies representing their country in the EP. Polling stations will remain open until 21:00.

Following the Netherlands, the election process will expand to 26 other European Union member countries and conclude on Sunday evening. The far right is anticipated to increase its vote share and representation in the EP during these elections.

Ireland and the Czech Republic are scheduled to vote tomorrow, while the remaining European countries will hold elections over the weekend. Initial results based on exit polls will be announced on Sunday night, with final results expected about a week after the elections.
