EU’s Leyen Proposes Sanctions on Israel

In her State of the European Union address, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU will propose sanctions on extremist Israeli ministers and settlers, along with a partial suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement. She stressed the need to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, calling man-made famine “unacceptable.”

Von der Leyen also confirmed work on the 19th sanctions package against Russia, urged tougher measures to cut reliance on Russian fossil fuels, and suggested using frozen Russian assets to finance Ukraine.

Her speech drew attention as many MEPs wore red in solidarity with Gaza, with some calling for an immediate end to the bloodshed.
