Excavations in Türkiye Reveal Potential 12,000-Seat Theater

Excavations at the 2,400-year-old Alexandria Troas Ancient City in Çanakkale’s Ezine district have resumed, with plans to continue until the year’s end. Led by Prof. Dr. Erhan Öztepe of Ankara University, a team of around 40 people is working at the city’s forum center. The excavation, supported by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, along with other institutions, aims to uncover a large ancient theater that could seat approximately 12,000 people. Located near olive fields, the theater offers views of the Northern Aegean Sea and Bozcaada, with future excavations planned to unearth it.
